How To Care For Scarves

Silk Scarf

Dry Clean or Hand Wash

For Hand Wash at Home:

1.    Fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water.
2.    Add a small amount of gentle detergent or baby shampoo to the water.
3.    Place silk scarves in the water. Wash each silk scarf separately; otherwise, colors may bleed into one another.
4.    Rinse the scarves with cool water until the water runs clear.
5.    Roll the scarves in a towel to absorb excess moisture. Blot them carefully to remove damp spots.
6.    Place the scarves on a hanger and hang them up until they are almost dry but still damp. Do not hang them in direct sunlight.
7.    Iron the silk scarves completely dry. Place your iron on the "silk" setting or a low setting if your iron doesn't have this feature, and don't use steam.

For Dry Clean

Ask your cleaners whether they have a special solution for silk garments. (Hand Wash is recommended; during Dry Clean some chemical constituents may damage the fabric.)

Warning

1.    Test your silk scarves for colorfastness before washing them. You can do this by applying a small amount of water to a small part of the scarf.
2.    Cosmetics and perfumes can stain and damage silk, so be careful applying these while wearing silk scarves.
